Norwegian company reMarkable, a leader in the e-ink / paper replacement space, has announced the release of innovative new colour e-ink tablet: the reMarkable Paper Pro.
The much-anticipated successor to the popular reMarkable 2 paper tablet now sports a brand new 11.8-inch colour e-ink display, adjustable front-light, and what the company describes as an “unmatched paper-like writing feel” (we look forward to testing that for ourselves when we get hold of a reMarkable Paper Pro for review on the site).
“Millions of people around the world rely on reMarkable to find focus and do their best work,” said Phil Hess, CEO of reMarkable. “reMarkable Paper Pro makes the experience even better, adding just enough technology to your workflow without getting in your brain’s way. We’ve built upon the success of reMarkable 2 to create a device that offers the best writing and reading experience ever on a paper tablet.”
The reMarkable 2 launched four years ago in September 2020, and was widely lauded at the time for its innovative design, outstanding writing experience and note-taking functionality. The fact the reMarkable 2 can still holds its own against the competition four years later is a glowing testament to the company’s commitment to produce and support a product with longevity in mind. Regular firmware updates mean that the reMarkable 2 is still a very relevant and capable e-paper tablet in 2024.
However, 4-year-old hardware does begin to show its age alongside contemporary competition from the likes of Onyx Boox, Supernote and others. A refresh of the reMarkable platform was, if anything, overdue. The reMarkable Paper Pro catapults the company to the forefront of e-ink innovation once more. On paper, the revolutionary colour e-ink panel is a step up from anything we’ve seen from e-ink before, and the revised pen technology that, according to reMarkable sets new industry benchmarks for latency and responsiveness (.
We won’t know how that translates to real-world usability and writing experience until we try it out for ourselves (watch this space).
“reMarkable Paper Pro uses advanced technology to recreate something unimaginably complex yet incredibly simple: the feeling of putting pen to paper,” said Mats Herding Solberg, chief design officer of reMarkable. “It’s perfect for anyone who wants to bring the focus and clarity you get from working on paper into the digital age.”
